GooglePlay Music is closing down and giving way to YouTube Music

Google began shutting down access to the Play Music app on Android and desktop for users in Brazil this week .

When opening the app on their phone, people are notified that the app is no longer available, along with the option to transfer songs and playlists to YouTube Music , Google's streaming service.

When accessing Google Play Music on your computer, a page displays a similar message.

The day after this report was published, Google informed G1 that tracks purchased and sent via Play Music will be migrated to YouTube Music, and that they will not have the limitations of the free version of the platform.

YouTube Music plays ads and doesn't let you download songs to listen to offline on your no-charge plan – this won't apply to downloaded songs.

Play Music will no longer work, but users can download their data and music until December. After that date, the material will be deleted.

The migration plans had been announced by Google in August, and are part of the company's strategy to focus its efforts on YouTube Music.


How to transfer songs


To migrate to another Google service, just press the “Switch to YouTube Music” button, which appears when you open the application.

According to Google, the Google Play Music library is transferred with:


the songs sent and purchased;
playlists and various stations;
albums and songs in your library;
