What is emotional design?
It consists of the study of how the aesthetic characteristics of a given object influence people's perception , causing repulsion or attraction. In the commercial sense, it is related to the feeling that a product provokes in the public.
The concept is relatively new, as it was proposed in 2003, in the book Emotional Design, by Cognitive Science professor Donald A. Norman.
Its purpose is to justify the opportunities that design opens up for business, going beyond the appeal that its appearance generates — if explored correctly.
There are famous examples in the market where design is the aspect that adds the most value to a given item. This does not mean that a product is inferior to others in its functions. But with emotional design, it is able to reach and engage the target audience through a positive experience.
